Moonlight reflecting off the river sets a romantic mood.
This Flame Azalea grows wild on the grounds and is typical of the spectacular foliage that includes azaleas, rhododendrons and mountain laurels.
Georgia has thirteen species of native azaleas, making outstanding fall foliage.
With the largest number of different varieties of deciduous trees in the world,
the southern appalachian mountains have undeniably the best fall colors available anywhere.
Mid-October is generally the peak season, but anytime from mid-September to mid-November you are likely to have great colors.
Vast varieties and quantities of butterflies abound (I presume this is due to the abundant wildflowers).
I have been trout fishing at times with more than a hundred aloft around me.

A 10-inch salamander called a
Mudpuppy (or waterdog) was caught and released in the river in front of the retreat.
If you're a fan of lizards, you'll love the abundance of lizards and skinks running around. My favorite is the Five-lined Skink
(love that neon/iridescent blue tail).
