Reiki is a natural adjunct to traditional hypnotherapy for pain management, stress reduction, strengthening certain organs and the stimulation of the body's immune system. Reiki in Japanese means "universal life force energy", it is a powerful - yet gentle - method of healing through opening, clearing and re-balancing one's energy system.

Reiki is a natural holistic energy therapy, which has been practiced around the world for over 2500 years. In the US many chiropractors, nurses, massage therapists, hypnotherapists, and other health care providers are discovering the value of adding this effective modality to their practice - it promotes rapid personal growth.

Medical therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy can benefit from Reiki by reducing the negative side effects and promoting the effectiveness of treatments. The healing of emotional traumas can be accelerated with Reiki, and it can be especially powerful in overcoming the trauma of incest and sexual abuse. Reiki provides relief from many ailments that benefit from improved internal energy flow, such as arthritis and other conditions of stiffness, maladjustment or pain.

I use Reiki almost at every session. It helps my clients relax quickly and easily and facilitates optimal conditions for deep hypnosis.

It is not necessary to place hands on to transfer this energy. I often just hold my hands 1-2 inches away from the various areas on the body. I believe that intent is very important in this case, maybe even more so than with placing on hands. The atmosphere in the office is of calmness, tranquility and relaxation. Subdued lighting, soft music and sometimes incense burning, all are conducive to introspection and growth.

Reiki technique is similar to Therapeutic Touch. The only difference that I perceive is that to practice Reiki you need to receive an attunement. The name Therapeutic Touch implies touch and, as I mentioned above, it's not needed in Reiki practice.

There are four levels of Reiki.

• Reiki I - With the first attunement, the practitioner can do the basis energy transfer.
• Reiki II - Here the studies are much more involved and the practitioner is given Reiki symbols with the second attunement to be able to perform absentee healing. Reiki II practitioner can send Reiki over space and time, to a relative in a remote location or even to a different lifetime and beyond. Individuals passing on can benefit from receiving Reiki as well.
• Reiki III - With the third attunement, the practitioner's ability to perform Reiki is intensified and a decision can be made to move to the final level of Reiki Master, that also a Reiki teacher.
• Reiki Master - At this level the student receives final instructions and guided to share this wonderful, bountiful and extremely rewarding gift with the universe.

The concept of transfer of healing energy to open blockages is ancient one and spans many continents. Christ was able to heal with his hands, so was Buddha.

I believe that this ability is natural for us because we used it many times before… Now we are just remembering and rediscovering it again. You can often observe it take place when a mother comforts a wounded child, kisses the "boo boo" and "makes it go away". That is an example of energy transfer with the intent of healing.

• Just for today I will not be angry.
• Just for today I will do my work honestly.
• Just for today I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.
• Just for today I will honor my parents, teachers and elders.
