Where Manifestation Meets Careful Shopping

Happy World Water Day!

world water day

With the consumer market nowadays allowing lots of options for how to buy (and resell or return), being a careful and picky shopper may seem outdated. However, this is when being that way is most useful!

When you pair careful shopping with a touch of manifesting skills, the results can be astounding! In my own experience, it’s very helpful to be specific. This is epitome of the cliché phrase ‘be careful what you wish for, because you might actually get it,’ since when you spell it out to the letter, chances are you will be pleased with your results. The universe gifts us what we ask for, but we only perceive it as such if we were specific in the first place. There is enough abundance in the world for everyone to enjoy, and the powers that be are happy to reward good and well-meaning people.

So what are the basics of manifestation, in regards to careful shopping?
** Think over all of the qualities of the items you seek (perhaps even write them down).
** Open up the avenues of searching in every manner possible (internet, newspaper, word of mouth, etc.)
** Be thankful for opportunities that come up (even if they’re not exact matches).
** Listen to your intuition (or ‘gut’ feeling) about whether a thing meets your requirements.
** Have faith and courage to keep searching, and Know that your ideal item is within you reach, and waiting for you to discover it.
** Don’t allow the search to consume you – on the contrary, think of it as infrequently as possible (knowing circumstances are falling into place).
** Remain happy and spread joy around your life, wishing happiness and ideal product attainment for all.
** When you find that item and you’re immediately smitten, buy it!

The ways of these things working out are sometimes truly mysterious. For example, the other day my boyfriend and I went on a road-trip to check out a new truck. It took a few hours to realize it was more trash than treasure, so we drove the two hours back without it. Later on that same evening, another opportunity presented itself, and it was only five minutes away! This truck was perfect, and half the price. After months of seeking, and a botched effort earlier the same day, he acquired exactly what he’d been searching for.

Of course, the flip-side is that when you find a great deal with an item that meets your expectations, you must snatch it up! Sometimes such an opportunity only knocks once.

gift

The benefits of being a scrupulous shopper are almost endless in today’s consumerism-saturated world. Why not take a little extra time and make sure you get the best bang for your buck? You know as well as I do that your ideal items are out there, just waiting for you to take them home (after paying a bargain price)!

Carpe Diem and Expand Your World Linguistically!

Learning new languages is pretty amazing. I was lucky enough to learn three at a young age, and some people learn pieces of second or third ones at school. Obviously the pluses are numerous… the brain benefits from an expanding perception of different words and phrases, and the world is more open to someone who can understand different languages. It’s so much more than just being able to communicate with additional people… it’s also being able to read more literature, to watch more films, to comprehend more nuances in daily life.

And it’s not only left- or right-brain action, either. Both sides develop the abilities together, and also communicate to make complex ideas possible.
“No matter how lateralized the brain can get, though, the two sides still work together,” said Carl Zimmer, science writer, in a Discover magazine article. “The pop psychology notion of a left brain and a right brain doesn’t capture their intimate working relationship. The left hemisphere specializes in picking out the sounds that form words and working out the syntax of the phrase, for example, but it does not have a monopoly on language processing. The right hemisphere is more sensitive to the emotional features of language, tuning-in to the slow rhythms of speech that carry intonation and stress.”

In essence, by learning new languages you’re actually extrapolating with portions of both sides of your brain!

charlemagne

And by ‘soul’, Charlemagne meant something more along the lines of a second ‘personality,’ ‘way of being’ or ‘self’. And it’s true – one does have a personality for each language one’s able to speak.

So, now that we’ve established the benefits of learning languages, what is the best way to approach the situation???

Of course, the first step is to decide which new language you’ll be learning.
Just a word of advice: unless you’re already a polyglot (and maybe not even then) it’s not generally a good idea to do more than one at a time. You want your brain to definitely know the limits of one language and to not get it mixed up with other words or phrases that you learned at the same time from another. Start slow and know that your progress may begin with difficulty, but with persistence you’ll begin to notice the benefits.

Secondly, enroll in some free online language helpers.
Memrise.com is a really good one, as well as Duolingo.com. Nowadays there’s no need to pay for some expensive tape when so many terabytes of knowledge are at everyone’s fingertips!

Third, begin to watch foreign movies with subtitles. Listen to what people are saying and read the subtitles as you watch. The more experience hearing your target language in action the better! Your brain makes thousands of neural connections on a daily basis, and allowing it access to more content in your new language is only helpful to your polyglot quest!

Fourth, find some people that speak your language fluently. They might be in your community, or even online in a group. Befriend some of them and inform them that you’re learning one of the languages they know. Most people are happy to encourage others and would be happy to have a few conversations with you, as well as give you pointers on where to further expand your fluency.

Finally, make sure you’re persistent! I cannot repeat this enough, because learning a new language has incredible benefits but it also takes a lot of work!!! The thing is, though, even if you were only a monoglot before, you can still become fluent in another language within a year with the right effort. Of course, when you choose your language at step one it’s important that it’s truly one you want to know. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, and the brain craves to learn. Feed it information that it enjoys, and the chore of learning becomes more of a joyful and exhilarating task.

So, carpe diem (seize the day) and expand your world one extra language at a time! Our globe is a huge place; why limit yourself only to the society of millions that speak your native language?? There is so much media, information, historical beauty, and exploration that can only be done when you comprehend other languages!
Begin today?

Overcoming Anger In A Snap

“Acknowledging the complexity of life may be an especially fruitful path to psychological well-being,” says psychologist Jonathan M. Adler of the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. He continues: “Remember, one of the primary reasons we have emotions in the first place is to help us evaluate our experiences.”

Anger and upset are natural reactions to daily life, and although we feel the utopian solution is to be upbeat no matter what, it’s just not so. It’s healthy to feel negative emotions and often it’s necessary as well, since it takes the downs to recognize our ups. Our sense of contentment runs the risk of being cheapened if we feel we must always push the anger away! In addition, some are socialized to believe that certain negative emotions are okay to express (depression, anxiety, or sadness), but not anger.
Really, though, the key to feeling fulfilled is to acknowledge issues, and face problems head-on. In addition, recent scientific studies point to the fact that suppressing thoughts can be very harmful. People who suppress in the face of stressful situations are likely to feel more stressed than those who admit their emotions to themselves, and then react to these emotions’ existence.

Anger is defined as “an emotional state that varies in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage,” according to Charles Spielberger, PhD, a psychologist who specializes in anger studies. Like any other emotion, anger is more than just a feeling – it’s coupled with biological and physiological shifts. When you experience anger your blood pressure and heart rate escalate, and your levels of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and energy hormones go up.

Naturally, angry feelings can be caused by internal or external events, and sometimes they’re recurring when the individual is in similarly stressful situations often. For example, running a little late and having to deal with traffic or lousy drivers, or perhaps asking someone to do something and seeing evidence of it not being done for a few days in a row. They can also be triggered by memory fragments of deeply moving or traumatic experiences. And, it’s important to note that the existence of some anger is necessary to survival since in order to respond to threats we need a powerful adrenaline-causing emotion that drives us to fend off danger.

The most essential element, of course, is how life’s angering situations are dealt with. There are three main ways of approaching them: expressing, suppressing, and calming. Expressing must be in a non-aggressive but assertive way, in order to be the least harmful and humiliating to those around. This means maintaining respect for others, while still communicating clearly about what you need. Anger left unchecked turns irrational very fast, so extreme logic is helpful in keeping it humane while quantifying the best turn of events going forward.

anger twain quote

Suppressing can only be helpful if done correctly, since the aim is to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, and transform the angry feelings into constructive ones. However, the problem arises when the feelings are bottled up for the moment and everything seems hunky-dory on the surface, while the negativity continues to pile up inside. The two worst case scenarios become anger turned inward at oneself, or lashing out at others in payback mode, without any real reason but in a passive-aggressive and hostile manner.

Now we’re left with the best approach — calming.
So here’s the how to getting over anger in a snap!

Some tips:

++ Deep breathing from your diaphragm, and counting slowly to yourself while allowing your emotions to ease before reacting.

++ Concentrating on a word (such as “calmly”) or phrase (such as “relaxing more and more”), or one of your own construct. Belaboring and repeating the word(s) to yourself as you momentarily exit the situation and allow the hotheadedness to ease.

++ Closing your eyes and taking yourself to a calm place from your memory or one you make up, such as floating in the clouds or lounging beach-side. Imagining all of the sounds (and sensations) that would be there (the whoosh of air currents, and complete silence of floating high above the ground; or the to-and-fro of ocean waves lapping against the shore at your feet). Become surrounded by this place and allow yourself to feel peace.

++ Restructuring the situation with humor. There are a few ways to do this, depending on how much it has escalated.
The first way: if you’ve already called someone or a situation a name, then imagine (or physically draw out) how this would actually look. For example, a dumbbell or single celled amoeba or silly-face sitting at the drivers’ wheel, or perhaps at one of the desks at work.
+ The second way: if you’re feeling very irrationally upset when things aren’t going your way sometimes you might imagine yourself as the emperor/empress or supreme ruler that’s striding through the day (your surroundings) demanding others do your bidding. Extreme imaginings are often helpful in infusing humor which helps to alleviate extreme feelings.
+ The final way you can use humor is by saying something completely ridiculous. Even if it doesn’t make others laugh, you’ve separated yourself from the anger and allowed your mind to overcome by being amused. Smiling and laughing will send endorphins to your brain and allow you to be more rational with your reactions.

Any of the above tips can be accomplished in the time it takes to snap your fingers. Try them sometime. Getting out of the habit of reacting angrily is in itself the formation of a new habit. The only way you’ll see lasting results is by not suppressing, by being upbeat, and by calming yourself before reacting. Your world will surely thank you.

The Magic Of Going Outside When You Don’t Actually Have To

Nowadays it seems that we often spend most of our time cooped up, going from home to the car, and then to work and back again. The cold days keep us wanting to stay inside, and the warm days just pass us by, because we’ve built up the habit of not enjoying fresh air.

The thing is, though, fresh air and nature should be mainstays in our everyday, regardless of the outside temperature. There is, of course, the matter of oxygen– instead of the aromas and carbon dioxide we inhale inside. Our slouching habits also sometimes cause us to forget that our lungs crave fresh air, and they also crave the ability to fill up to the max (at least a few times a day).

So… once a day when you’re outside anyway or when you are doing something that could be accomplished outdoors as well, pause for a moment and take in the fresh air. Get away from the hubbub of modernity and close your eyes to just experience the sensations around you…
Forget everything but the moment and breathe in. Allow your lungs to fill with fresh oxygen and enjoy the nature sounds around you.

henry thoreau nature

There truly is magic in the natural world around us, even though we’ve built up metropolises and gotten wrapped up in man-made splendors. And it’s truly a gift to remember what things exist in the trees and grass and sky when we have the desire and resolve to see them.

Just a friendly reminder to enjoy the bountiful nature around, and also to allow your body to reap its benefits. Just a suggestion to look up more often, examine the clouds, and name their shapes. And maybe even walk around barefoot in some grass and connect more with the magic in our world. Any way that seems right to you is perfect, just make an effort to practice these experiences for at least two minutes every day. The real-life and tangible magic it’ll infuse into your life is truly priceless…

Why Communication Is Key (& How To Use It To Unlock Everything)

The concept of communication seems like a given, but it appears that nowadays it takes a backseat when it should actually be a main topic. As a skill it’s unrivaled when it comes to its applicability to daily life. We’re constantly communicating with others in various forms and perhaps we take it for granted sometimes…

Instead of just waiting for our turn to speak it’s important to actually listen to others and internalize the information they’re trying to convey. Communication is the crux of all successful relationships, and I feel that sometimes people forget to show they’re truly listening. Putting an effort into having a dialogue with someone, without judgment, can even be the basis for (or continuation of) an unexpected partnership. And, of course, two (or more) heads are much better than one. Effective problem-solving can only occur when people genuinely respect the ideas of others, and communication is the key to any successful collaboration.

If we look back in history, most of the unlikely rising stars we still hear about today had the communication skill down. They used effective speaking to convey their ideas, and they simplified their big ideas into smaller actionable ones so that others could carry on their legacies. To carry on their example, it’s important to recognize that not everyone is as talented or as smart as you are…. often people require you to extrapolate on your ideas before they can internalize and run with them as intended. I don’t mean that as a jab at the average individual, I just feel it’s important to know you’re unique (as are your thoughts) and respecting others at their level is just another aspect of effective communicating. You don’t need to talk down to them, necessarily, it’s just helpful to be your own mediator between thoughts and expected results.

brian tracy quote

Arthur Schopenhauer (a German philosopher from the early 1800s) stated that, “talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.” When we combine talent, genius, and communication skills we become a truly unstoppable force! When it comes down to it, the ability to communicate advanced topics to others is what determines how much these topics are truly grasped. What I mean is, effective communication is essential to developing and pursuing genius.

Effective leadership requires communication, but so does any relationship!
A romantic (or even familial) relationship also flourishes when communication is present, and when mutual respect is in place to help both partners feel their statements and feelings matter.

So, in your own life, consider putting down your electronic devices for a bit and actually engaging your world. Show your respect for those that matter and make eye contact when they’re talking to you. Express your understanding and appreciation for what they say by responding in a timely manner without tuning them out. Ram Dass says “wherever you are, be all there,” and I think that’s a perfect summary for getting better with your communication skills. Of course, everything requires practice and communicating is no exception – the only way to improve is to use it as often as possible in varying degrees.

It’s easy to get immersed in chores, and projects, and even in our own thoughts. But when we extrapolate advanced concepts and engage our surrounding world at the same time, we can truly experience the beauty that is.

Using The Power of Your Mind to Overcome Physical Ailments

The power of the mind is pretty immense (and intense). And the fact of the matter is that the body and its automatic functions keep us alive every single day, every single moment. We don’t have to think about the simple biological functions that are needed for us to make it through another hour… they’re just taken care of, effortlessly. The beauty of it is that most of the time it’s okay not to pay attention, because paying attention to the other tasks in life (that require the mind) takes precedence. And the body is actually happy to take care of the mundane living-tasks while we spend our attention elsewhere – this is its purpose.

Every once in a while, though, the body falls ill with something, and we are forced to pay attention. We must, of course, nurse it back to health with vitamins, extra rest, warmth, and the like. However, there’s an extra layer to the nursing that needs to be included for true and lasting success – the power of the mind. Our mind is all powerful when it comes to the matters of the body, and with an unwaveringly positive attitude great mountains can be moved.

Know that you DESERVE health, and always send love to yourself. Send love and positive thoughts to your whole body from head to toe, sending extra to the places that need it most. Truly feel yourself accepting this positivity, and allow it to radiate through you bringing renewed vigor. When you release negativity and only accept good thoughts, you are encouraging all the healing mechanisms in your body to work even more efficiently… this brings about total health much faster.

Chakras of the human body.
Chakras of the human body.

It’s important to recognize that the power of your mind works both ways… when you are harboring negative thoughts or grudges (for others or yourself) the body definitely starts showing physical signs. And just attacking the physical representations of your ailment(s) isn’t the only strategy, because nothing will be fully healed until you approach the brain’s aspect of it. Be open-minded and sympathetic, and most of all be understanding! The interconnection between mind, body, and spirit is so strong that complete healing can only take place when you acknowledge and handle every side of any illness. Take some time to truly heal the roots of any ailments you have, in a spiritual and mental sense.

Sometimes it’s not even necessary to delve really deep to spell it out, but accepting a wave of positivity as a replacement for unattended negativity is enough. What I mean is that sometimes all you need to do is finally dump the negative baggage, grudges, resentment, envy, and stress… Allow your body and mind to bask in a rainbow of positive rainbow golden light and allow negative things to just dissipate and exit, never to be seen again. Become a being of light, a candle in a world of darkness. Begin with yourself! Become the kind of person that only accepts positivity as a lasting emotion; the kind of person that is observant and present in every situation, knowing that with a clear and even-keel mind you only allow positive emotions to stay.

With this sort of mindset you will find that even the smallest of ailments are overcome in a much swifter way. Better yet, practice on the smaller ailments. Spend a few minutes when they’re available to repeat the exercise above… finally release this baggage that hasn’t been suiting you, and find yourself relaxing in new ways… You definitely deserve it, and so do those around you!

I’ve used this same method in conjunction with vitamins and extra rest to stay healthy through many flu seasons, and to overcome colds within two days when I do catch them. Try it sometime?

Feeling Emotionally Drained Without Explanation???

Relationships sometimes are “acute stressors…[or] chronic stressors,” and this type of stress causes “changes in endocrine functioning” which can affect immune system function, and (ultimately) overall health. While it’s a study of marriage in particular, it shows that differences in how men and women react to aggression effect immune function and health/quality of life way down the road.
[Above paragraph paraphrased from This Study .]

Don’t allow yourself to get caught in a jar so to speak; your surroundings everyday determine your overall enjoyment of life. So are you happy and fulfilled…? Do you smile upon awakening for a brand new day?

jar_

Or are you sullen, depressed, sometimes reaching for a momentary escape from your daily circumstances???

Now, sometimes that’s the way you’re telling yourself that something should be changed…. and it’s definitely worth considering if you feel down often and fantasize about remedying things.
But, the flip-side is that it’s also possible your overall engaging of your life’s moments is what’s determining how situations turn out.

What are some ways to feel more fulfilled, even without leaving a job or a spouse?

The short answer is to work more on yourself, and tend to your innermost needs. Often other people (or circumstances or inebriants) aren’t the answer to what you seek to feel….
In my experience the most effective and swift method to feeling uplifted is to change the individual’s perception of the outside world.
So, for a little bit, or as a last-ditch effort, or even just for the sake of experimentation:
Perform the same daily functions for a while but with renewed vision. Use every opportunity to grow as a person and as a mature member of the worldwide social interaction network. And I don’t mean the internet – I mean the social interactions you have every single day with other people face-to-face, or with the various elements of life going on around you.
The more involved answer is: Drink in life, enjoy the tiny fleeting moments, find the utmost pleasure in little happiness-es. Shed any negative baggage you’ve held onto for no one’s benefit. Allow any negativities you encounter daily to just wash away and dissipate from your being, leaving you always feeling simple contentment at your core.

The Power of Consideration

Happy Groundhog Day!

Some people brush off the concept of consideration, thinking it has little bearing on daily life. The truth of the matter is that being considerate (aka thoughtful, kind, caring, and respectful) of others is one of the most wonderful and rewarding things you can do. The rewards are endless, because not only does a considerate attitude warm others to you, but it generally also improves your own quality of life from moment-to-moment.
Consideration is more than just getting along with others, attempting to jive with them, or just being nice. It’s niceness, but expanded further to think outside the box and at times foresee the needs of others.

So what makes considerate people stand out?

Of course, thoughtful and nice people are often working on their empathy and always expanding their worldview. They are compassionate for the world and people around them, and it shows in small actions. A strongly considerate person might perceive the opposite of this behavior to be selfishness, simply because of someone’s lack of empathy and compassion.

No-act-of-kindness

Kind and considerate people are thoughtful of others’ needs and desires. They have developed an intuitive understanding and often find themselves anticipating people’s requests or wants, before they are asked. The reason for this is that they’re in-tune with the world around them and also are always putting themselves in others’ shoes, so the little things are just a matter of logic. Considerate people have very strong extrapolation skills, as they are constantly using them to be nicer to those around.

Courteous people are often smiling, because they know positivity’s power! They smile at themselves in the mirror at various points in the day, but they are also always grinning at people just to brighten others’ day. They realize that something as simple as a smile (even when given to a stranger) is one of the strongest and easiest ways to improve multiple people’s day. This is one of the most basic principles of the consideration concept.

Thoughtful and respectful people utilize their manners and attempt to handle every situation with class. They are polite, which means NOT just listening to speak. They DO actually make eye contact when others are talking and truly pay attention to communications and the speakers’ underlying message. They also find themselves living by the ‘golden rule’ pretty much always, since the way they’d like to be treated is the perfect gauge for a polite way to treat others.

Just by being considerate, a person inherently practices selflessness. This means putting others first, but not always, because balance is the ultimate way to live life to the fullest. You can’t be treating others like gold and yourself like bronze! You must remain positive and continuously appreciate your own moment-to-moment in order to practice meaningful kindnesses.

The powers of being kind and considerate are many, as the energy you put out into the world always finds its way back to you.

A-Little-Consideration-Eeore

The only additional advice I have as you pursue the expansion of your version of Consideration, is this: Always maintain your self-respect. It’s important to be considerate of/to yourself, and this means never becoming a doormat. Just as with anything, moderation is key because not everyone deserves to be treated like diamonds and everything nice! Sometimes people are too far-gone into negativity, but that’s their battle. Even with them, just keep on smiling! Positivity is proven to be infectious. 🙂

That Bliss You Seek Is Already Within

Yesterday our most recent Mercury retrograde ended. Whether or not you’ve noticed its infamous effects since January 5th, now’s a great time to recognize the dangers of seeking outside what must come from within.

Often we’ve spent countless time seeking outside of us the tools to our own happiness. Maybe we’ve sought to find them in other people, maybe in hobbies, or maybe in books and magazines. We might have even sought after happiness in other people’s guides to said topic. The truth is happiness comes from within.

The concept of being happy is an internal outflowing of emotion that we must befriend. And no, it’s not constant — life hands us unhappy moments that we have to deal with and overcome. The secret to accessing internal happiness is accepting it’s not external.

happiness-i-made-it-myself-300x300

Meditate on this concept if you haven’t yet, because it’s crucial to being happy most of the time. That’s all we can really hope for, is happiness during the majority of each day. Become one with that feeling — that emotion of unfettered joy. That emotion we recall from childhood when school was out for the summer and no responsibilities beckoned. That emotion when we achieve major milestones that at first seemed inaccessible. That effortless joy in a few moments of genuine laughter. That pure bliss that lives in each one of us.
That joy that’s just waiting to be awakened more and more often. That same internal happy-place that belongs to everyone, and is aching to visit constantly.

Allow yourself to forgive more quickly, to let go of grudges, to release negative emotions soon after they arise. Allow your happiness to become your go-to. It’s beyond time to give yourself this gift of truly enjoying as many seconds of each day as possible!

Release your worries out into the world, knowing you have access to endless beautiful circumstances and overwhelming bliss. Smile and laugh even if it’s over something silly or ridiculous. Why not?
Do it for you; the positivity in all external portions of your life will naturally follow. 🙂

More Hugs = Physiological Benefits

Happy Mercury–Venus–Mars–Jupiter–Saturn–Alignment Month, a day early!
Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to see all of those visible planets from the Moon to the horizon in the early morning sky.
It’s the first time since eleven years ago, and it probably won’t happen again until 2040!

Alignment_ rare event wont happen again til 2040

In this rare and beautiful time, I’d like to make a point about something that most take for granted.
You might have seen the scientific studies coming out for the last few years about hugs, and I know many people have noticed differences in their own life when they incorporate more loving physical contact. In this day of technology and long-distance friendship, sometimes it’s rare to have people that you share love with close-by. And I feel like that’s the myth I must dispel — that you need to really love someone to hug them, or even have any physical contact with them past a handshake.

Way too often I’ve seen people go extremely long periods of time without even a tiny bit of physical contact with any fellow human. The truth is, this can be very detrimental to health; or even in the best case, they’re missing out on free healthful situations.

Hugs have been proven to lower blood pressure, to send oxytocin (the love hormone) to the brain, help dispel or lower fears and pain, lower cortisol (meaning they act as natural stress relief) and help small children grow to be happier (more carefree) adults.

And here’s the main point — hugs and cuddles are best for adults. That’s right… we stand to gain the most benefits from having more hugs and cuddles in our lives. They’re a true win-win.
The secret to maximizing the healthful and physiological benefits is allowing the hugging-type interaction to last longer than 20 seconds every time.

So do yourself and those around you a favor… start being more of the interactive and hugging type! Of course, always respect their space and your own.
But, instead of trying to stay ‘cool’ or unattached to your surroundings, perhaps consider staying cool while expressing the gamut of love that you feel.
It’s a free and simple solution that benefits everyone involved… ramp up your hugging game today!!!

Have a wonderful week! 🙂
